SCHOOL PROPOSES LOWER RATE - The Bridgeport school district Monday proposed a tax rate for the upcoming year of $1.16 per $100 valuation for the upcoming fiscal year. Last year's rate was $1.19585. The proposed figure for the upcoming year reflects a 3.8 cent drop in taxes for the purpose of principal and interest on debts. The board will vote to adopt the proposed rate on Aug. 31. The board might also consider holding a November bond election at the same meeting.

BOONSVILLE WRECK - At least one person was seriously injured in a wreck at the intersection of Texas 199 and Farm Road 920 in the Boonsville area Sunday night. The Wise County Sheriff's Office reported that an 18-wheeler t-boned a car around 6:30. A helicopter ambulance transported one patient to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.

CLOSING - The Wise County Elections Department is closed for training through Friday, Aug. 21.

PROJECT GRADUATION - A Project Graduation meeting for the parents of the 2010 Bridgeport seniors was to be 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, in the high school commons area.

ALVORD ORIENTATION - Alvord Middle School's 7th grade orientation was to be 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the new middle school, 328 S. Farm Road 1655. Sixth grade orientation is 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.

4-H DEADLINE - Wednesday, Aug. 19, was to be the last day to turn in State Fair of Texas entries to the Extension office. For information, call the Extension office at (940) 627-3341.

REGISTRATION - Weatherford College in Wise County will offer extended hours until 7 p.m. through Thursday, Aug. 20, for new and returning student registration. Offices will also be open Friday, Aug. 21, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 24.

BRIDGEPORT ELEMENTARY - Bridgeport Elementary School will host their Meet the Teacher night Thursday, Aug. 20. Kindergarten meets at 6 p.m., first grade at 6:45 p.m. and second grade at 7:30 p.m. All grades meet in the cafeteria.

SOCIAL LUNCH - The Social Service Luncheon is noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Catfish O'Harlies in Decatur. Joy Woodruff, a CASA volunteer, is guest speaker. For information call (940) 627-6418.

CHAMBER LUNCH - The Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce luncheon is 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Bridgeport Lions' Hall. Cost is $10. RSVP to the chamber office no later than Wednesday, Aug. 19. To donate an item for the raffle, call the chamber office at (940) 683-2076.

SCHOOL DEDICATION - The new Chico Elementary School building, 1120 Park Road, will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. There will be tours of the new facility after the dedication ceremony.

BAKE SALE - A bake sale will be held in benefit of Linda Callaway of Paradise from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the First State Bank in Bridgeport. Callaway is waiting for a second liver transplant. For information, call Kim Taylor at (940) 255-2228.

AUDITIONS - Auditions for the 15th annual Wise County fall-out will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 22 and Aug. 29 at the G.C. Rann Little Theatre at the Wise County Heritage Museum. Call (940) 627-5586 to schedule an appointment. Auditions will be held for singers, musicians, dancers and jugglers. Fall-Out is Saturday, Nov. 14.

BENEFIT SHOOT - Slidell Friends of FFA will host a non-sanctioned sporting clay shoot Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Fossil Pointe Sporting Grounds ( http://www.fossilpointe.net ). Registration is at 7:30 a.m., and the shoot begins at 8. Proceeds benefit the Friends of FFA and Wil Goode Memorial Scholarship Fund. Lunch available on site.

RAFFLE TICKETS - The Decatur Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is selling raffle tickets for a Stoeger Condor 12-gauge over and under shotgun. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and can be purchased at the First Financial and North Texas banks or from any DCPAAA member. Drawing will be Oct. 6. Proceeds go to the Decatur Police Department to help provide training equipment.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - The North Central Texas Council of Governments' Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program needs volunteers to help elderly and disabled residents of nursing and assisted living facilities in Bridgeport and Decatur. No experience is required, but volunteers must be at least 18 years old and must complete a free training course consisting of classroom study and training at local nursing homes. FIGHT MOSQUITOS - Decatur mayor Joe Lambert is asking residents to take care of their property to limit breeding grounds for mosquitos. Tips include cutting weeds, getting rid of standing water, trimming brush and cleaning out any "junk" that might be stacked in your yard.

FOSTER OR ADOPT - CASA is taking applications for the Arrow Child and Family Ministries foster/adopt training in September at the Decatur Public Library. DONATE A PHONE - Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center is accepting cell phones and cell phone batteries in any condition.
