Police will make drinkers an offer they can't refuse

County Attorney James Stainton, along with law enforcement agencies across Wise County and volunteers from both Wise Regional Health System and Doctors' Hospital, are instituting the first "no refusal" weekend over the July 4 holiday to crack down on drunk driving.

Despite blazing outdoor temperatures, Wise County commissioners issued a freeze on the Weatherford College branch campus maintenance tax for residents age 65 and older and disabled individuals. They also approved a $100,000 homestead exemption for those same residents.

TODAY'S UPDATE
STRUCTURE FIRE - Bridgeport, Paradise, Lake Bridgeport and Decatur Fire Departments responded to a structure fire in Bridgeport at Wise County Tax Services on Texas 114 at Texas 101 around 5:15 this morning. Initial reports suggest the fire started on the backside of the building, possibly outside, working in and toward the roof. As of 7 a.m., firefighters were still working to extinguish the last of the flames and recover any undamaged records from the building.
