Communications department receives honor

For the second straight year, dispatchers at the Wise County Sheriff's office have been honored by the North Central Texas Council of Governments for excellence in communication and training, specifically involving the hearing- or speaking-impaired.

On Jan. 29, 2008, fires blazed along County Road 3390 and Texas 114 in Paradise, burning more than 600 acres and destroying seven homes, including the home of Doug and Sandra Wright.
Recently retired, with little insurance money and only remnants of possessions found amidst the ashes, the couple was forced to start life over at 65 years old.

Two projects boost building permits

Dale and Julie Pierce look forward to welcoming guests into their plantation-style home at 118 Saddleback Road in Rhome. They have lived there for 10 years with their two children, Ty and Penny, and during that time, they have remodeled every room.

DECISION TIME - Wise County Commissioners will meet in special session at 1:30 this afternoon at the Sheriff's Department conference room to discuss a resolution opposing the inclusion of Wise County in the Metroplex air quality non-attainment zone. County Judge Bill McElhaney has prepared the resolution which says that there has been no actual testing of air quality in the county that would justify bringing the county into the non-attainment area. Other city and business leaders have been invited to today's meeting.

The Champlin family has made a tradition of picking out and cutting their Christmas trees at Connolly Farms in Alvord. The family visited the farm last weekend for the fifth year.
