SOUTH COUNTY FIRE - Fireplace ashes left in a box on the back porch is blamed for a fire at a mobile home near Boyd yesterday afternoon. Fire Marshal Paul Cunningham said the homeowner of the double-wide, located at 353 CR 4591, had cleaned out the fireplace and placed three-day-old ashes in a cardboard box on the back porch. The box caught fire and spread on the porch, then went up the side of the house and into the attic. Boyd, Paradise, Cottondale, Newark and Rhome firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the attic and roof areas at the back of the home. The interior of the house suffered smoke and water damage.
