Scouting
Littlefield: The Wildcats are much like
Boyd’s last two opponents in that
they like to run. This group operates out
of a power-I formation and has proven to
be among the best in controlling the clock.
The offense is led by Brian Hobratschk.
The signal caller is good on his feet and
passes no more than 10 times a game.
In the backfield will be Tyler Adams, Stephen
Viljoen and O.J. Zapata. Viljoen, a 6-foot-3,
210-pound runner, has been hard to stop
this season. The offense averages 332 yards
rushing and 50 yards passing a game. The
Wildcats have run for at least 190 yards
in every game this season, including a season-high
517 yards against Muleshoe. Defensively,
Littlefield has been tough. The group allows
16 points a game and had allowed just one
touchdown in six out of 13 games this season.
Keys to victory: The Boyd defense
has been spectacular against the run this
season. The group has shut down the last
two run-happy offenses and will need to
make it three in a row to advance. Offensively,
the Yellowjackets have surprised their last
two opponents by displaying a tenacious
running game. Tailbacks Josh Foster, Jeremy
Sessums and Danny Martin must have another
big night to keep Littlefield on the sideline.
The passing game, which has been slowed
by dropped passes the last two weeks, has
been good enough to make defenses defend
the pass, which has opened up the running
game.
Quarterback Cody Ogle last week became the
first Boyd quarterback to pass for 3,000
yards in a season when he moved to 3,028.
Receiver Jeremy Nelson received a milestone
as he has now caught 54 passes for 1,030
yards. Receiver Brandon Clement is not far
back as he has 54 catches for 990 yards.
