Danny WhiteName:

Danny White

Office sought:

County Commissioner, Precinct 1.

What is your philosophy on leadership?

My philosophy on leadership is very simple. It is common sense. I believe that a leader is one that has a goal and strives to work with his employees as a team to get the job done.

Do you own property and pay taxes in the Precinct you represent?

I pay taxes on my home in Precinct 1.

Have you ever been late in paying your taxes. If so, why?

I have always paid my taxes within the allowed time. I have never had any tax liens filed on me.

What do you believe is the number one issue facing the citizens in your precinct? How do you plan to address that issue?

The number one issue, in my opinion, is the county roads in Precinct 1. That is not to say that there are not other important issues, but this is the number one the concern of the citizens of Precinct 1 that I have talked with.

My goal, if I am fortunate to be elected, would be to chip and seal or pave at least 30 miles per year. There are 228 miles of county road in Precinct 1 and approximately 150 of those miles are still gravel.

With the new residential developments and oilfield traffic, it is imperative that the county roads are built to withstand this heavy traffic that all of Wise County is experiencing.

What have your life experiences taught you to prepare you for the office you seek?

I am not sure that my life experiences have prepared me for the job that I am seeking, but I can say that I am qualified to be Commissioner for the following reasons: I grew up in Decatur. I graduated from Decatur High School in 1965. I have worked in Decatur most of my working days. My children graduated from Decatur High School, and I go to church in Decatur.

I carried mail for 35 years in Precinct 1. I served my customers with pride and I always felt they were paying my salary. I guess you could say that I was a public servant to the citizens of Precinct 1 during this time.

So, my life experiences will not get me to the White House, but I can be a County Commissioner for the citizens of Precinct 1. I will work hard to be a County Commissioner for the people.

How would you rank the following in importance? Explain.

a. keeping the tax rate as low as possible
b. paving county roads
c. planning for growth
d. protecting our water resources
e. working with regional leaders on transportation issues
f. other

Once again, I must say for me it is the paving county roads. This is what I know. For 35 years, I traveled the county roads in Precinct 1 and I dodged pot holes and replaced tires frequently. I can honestly say there has not been much change in the county roads over these years. As I previously stated, I am now working in Precinct 4 and I have knowledge on how to build the county roads so that the roads can endure heavy usage.

The water source is second along with planning for growth. It is imperative that we strive to preserve our water source for our future. With growth, we have increases in water usage, environmental issues, over populated schools, new residential developments and more businesses. Therefore, planning for this growth is so important. I do believe that our city and county leaders have the citizen's of Wise County in their best interest and are working very hard at this neverending task.

I definitely don't want my taxes raised. I feel that raising taxes should be the last resort.

Working with regional leaders on transportation issues is necessary. Even though I feel that Tx Dot will have their own agenda, I do think it is necessary for both entities to be on the same page.

We hear a lot about "change" from the presidential campaigns what kind of "change" would you like to see in Wise County and how can you help make that change a reality?

All politicians are promising change. I, unfortunately, am not a politician.

Once again, the change I want to see is the county roads in Precinct 1. I want the roads paved and maintained. I want to be a County Commissioner that the citizens of Precinct 1 will feel comfortable to talk to me regarding their issues and concerns.

Decatur and Wise County are changing everyday. Change can be a good thing so long as we do not change our goals for the future. People are moving into Wise County because they like the friendliness of our citizens, they like our schools and they want their children to live in a safe environment. I feel that Decatur has the leadership to handle the changes that we are experiencing. I hope that I am fortunate enough to be a part of this transition.
