Name:
William Smith
Office sought:
Commissioner pct 3
What is your philosophy on leadership?
Truth and integrity with mutual respect through earning it rather than demanding it. Walk the walk through good times and bad; through example and understanding.
Do you own property and pay taxes in the Precinct you represent?
Yes
Have you ever been late in paying your taxes. If so, why?
Have always paid taxes in alloted time given
What do you believe is the number one issue facing the citizens in your precinct? How do you plan to address that issue?
The high cost of living getting higher and higher and things probably getting worse before getting better. To address the issue, I believe the next four years are going to require innovation and high productivity from elected officials and county employees. The willingness to roll up sleeves and be a good steward of taxpayer money.Throw out the politics and be a servant to the public, not further the financial burden of the citizens and taxpayers.
What have your life experiences taught you to prepare you for the office you seek?
My collar is blue and white striped. Corporate management made a lot of money and gave me an education in management and number crunching, however I was not home much and decided to be married to my wife and be a father to my children, rather than married to a corporation. It cost some money,a new car or two,and a big house but I would never trade for the dividends in love for what my family shares by being around. Have served on several civic committees and chaired some. Deacon for past ten years in humble and serving role. Just life in general and putting others ahead of myself. I have learned that me the man is only as strong as we the people. Giving is better than taking. Success is mine for being thankful for what I have been given without want.A wonderful wife of 32 years, a teacher in Boyd for over 20 and servant oriented children in education and coaching that can pass on the We rather than Me concept that they grew up with. That is my greatest success, and the glory is not mine.
How would you rank the following in importance? Explain.
Water is our most precious resource. I worked with state representative Bill Keffer of Dallas in the mid to late 1990s. For three arduous months to try and make sure that we have clean water in Wise County. I learned very much about the procedures, and responsibilities of oil and gas drilling in Wise County.
Paving county roads with quality, rather than quantity:To me this works hand in hand with keeping the tax rate low. I would rather pave 10 miles of 20 year road than 20 miles of five year road. Build it right while we're there than to come back in a few years and start over. A) keeping the tax rate as low as possible.
I believe that planning for growth is self evident. Taking the time and energy to work on these issues in a humble way with the cards always showing on the table which would also involve working with regional leaders on transportation as well as proposed growth issues facing our county. B) paving county roads
C) planning for growth
D) protecting our water resources
E) working with regional leaders on transportation issues
F) other
We hear a lot about change from the presidential campaigns – what kind of change would you like to see in Wise County and how can you help make that change a reality?
I am running on the format of "We the People." I feel that the best interests of the people many times are lost in the quagmire of politics and bureaucracy. We are only as strong ourselves as we the people. The head has gotten so big that we the people, the backbone of America are straining to hold it up. |
