BREAKING NEWS - OILFIELD INJURY - An employee with the Encana company sustained unknown injuries this morning while working on an oil pump Thursday morning. The man’s injuries were so serious that rescue workers flew him to an undisclosed hospital. The oil pump is located on CR 4430, two miles south of FM 2264. Brad Reed, a spokesman for Encana, would not comment on the matter and asked the Messenger to leave the scene.

BRIDGEPORT ANNEXATION - The City of Bridgeport, at it's Tuesday night meeting, annexed 441 acres into the city. The land is located west of Texas 101 and north of FR 1658. Each tract was through a volunteer petition. The city also designated 35 acres to industrial zoning and more than 300 as commercial. The remaining acreage will be used as residential.

WRECK - A Bridgeport man suffered a head injury Wednesday when his van hit the back of a large mower being pulled by a tractor, police said. According to officials, Edgar Jenkins, 49, was traveling at a fast pace down CR 3519 near Bridgeport when he collided with the mower. The van flipped on its side on the road, and witnesses said Jenkins had to crawl out the back to get free. Officials said Jenkins walked off from the accident, but was picked up by ambulance and taken to Wise Regional Health System for treatment.

NEW BANK - North Texas Bank of Decatur has announced the opening of a branch in Colleyville in mid-October.

BLOOD DRIVE - A blood drive is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, at Wise Electric Cooperative in Decatur. Call Karen Carpenter at (940) 626-3003 to schedule an appointment. O negative donors are especially needed.

PLAY DAY - Wise County Wranglers are having a play day Saturday at Salt Creek Arena in Boyd. Signup begins at 11 a.m., and riding begins at noon. Contact James Miller at (940) 577-3558 for more information.

MEETING - The Wise County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will meet at 7 tonight at the Wise County Messenger conference room.

SERVICE for Ernest Cox of Chico is 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church Chico with burial in Chico Cemetery.

MEMORIAL service for Ruth Rohus of Bridgeport is Friday at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home is handling the latter two services.

MEMORIAL service for Vickie Annette Bridges of Alvord is today at 10 a.m. at Living Word Assembly of God in Alvord.
