With the District 8-3A tournament just two weeks away, the Bridgeport High School tennis team finally got to enjoy some good weather that lasted long enough to get in a dual match.
That was the good news for Bridgeport at home Tuesday against Whitesboro, but it was bad news for the Bearcats who watched Bridgeport dominate with its depth in a 7-4 victory.
The only sweep of the day came in the singles play where two Sissies stole the show in convincing fashion. Micaela White and Shannon Demmitt hardly broke a sweat in cruising to wins in their matches.
White, the team's No. 1 player, swung a shutout in her return to the court. She blanked Ashley Chandler 8-0.
Demmitt, who is Bridgeport's most improved athlete and the No. 2 singles player, beat up on Monica Patel for an 8-1 decision.
Bridgeport had split results in the girls' double play. Whitesboro's Ashley Roberts and Chelsie Roberts hung on to edge BHS's Taylor McDonald and Katherine Weaver 8-4.
The Sissies' No. 1 tandem of Becca Logan and Meagan Tucker came out on top once again. The twosome posted an 8-5 win over Monica Patel and Ashley Roberts.
Whitesboro won two out of three matches in boys' singles play. The long local victory came from Jerry Ibanez who beat out Cory Meals.
The Bearcats were solid in the top two spots. Ibanez played twice but fell to No. 1 Jonathan Rodriguez 8-0. BHS's Ryan Robinson also came up short 8-0 to Austin Gann.
The No. 2 doubles team of Daniel Scott and Ryan Robinson played well in an 8-4 win over Derek Denton and Collin Colwell. The No. 1 duo of Daniel Scott and Gideon Logan were beat 8-1 by Taylor Chandler and Reed Kyle.
