Alvord nips Nocona in extra inning

There is playoff fever in Alvord, and it's because the baseball team is in the thick of the postseason race.

The Bulldogs did not disappoint once again Friday night against Nocona. They scattered eight hits and limited the Indians to just two, and then held on for a 4-3 win in eight innings.

Alvord got a wake-up call in the fourth inning when it fell behind 3-2. However, they had an answer on defense and got just enough runs across home plate to get the home victory.

The Bulldogs gave up three unearned runs in the fourth inning. After that, Nocona had plenty of problems with AHS pitcher Asa Hand.

Alvord, which got three hits from Trevor Hahn, scored once in the bottom of the fourth inning to even the score and later pushed the game winner across in the eighth frame.

Hand kept the team in a position to get the come-from-behind win. He allowed just two hits and four walks while striking out 13 batters. Fifty-eight of his 100 pitches were strikes as he picked up his sixth win of the year.

Offensively, Clayton Shaw ripped a pair of singles in the win, while Justin Meador and Colton Oldham had one single each. Hand and Shaw also knocked in all four runs for the game.

The win allowed the Bulldogs to remain in third place at 6-3 in district and 8-9 for the year.
