Mattie L. Garrett

1913-2008

Funeral for Mattie Lou Garrett, 95, of Boyd will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Arlington Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at Arlington Funeral Home.

Born Feb. 6, 1913, to Cleve and Mary Tillery in Mt. Vernon, she was one of 11 children. She was raised in East Texas and moved to Arlington in 1962. She quilted and sewed. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arlington, serving for more than 25 years in the preschool ministry.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Oswalt, and son-in-law, Ken Oswalt.

She is survived by her children, Rosemary Fowler-Larsen of Nevada, Mo., Ray Garrett and wife, Suzie, of Boyd and Randy Garrett of Boyd; grandchildren, Merri Dennis and husband, Jay, of Euless, Stephen Johnson and wife, Tina, of Grand Prairie, Judy Kelley and husband, Wade, of Grapevine, Kristina Hays and husband, Raymond, Mark Gonzalez and wife, Michelle, and Mary Lou Myers; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Preschool Ministry, First Baptist Church of Arlington.
