A Monday morning collision between a pickup and a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Farm Roads 51 and 2123 sent a Sachse woman to the hospital with a head injury.

The powerful impact left a string of debris a couple of hundred yards long along the south lane of FM 51. The debris included a backhoe being towed by the 18-wheeler.

The 18-wheeler was headed south on FM 51 when a black pickup truck, eastbound on FM 2123, ran the stop sign at the intersection and collided into the cab of the tractor-trailer.

"The driver said he never saw the stop sign," said DPS trooper John Horton.

The collision pushed the 18-wheeler into the northbound lane and caused the backhoe to tumble off the trailer and land on the shoulder of the southbound lane.

Horton said it was fortunate no traffic was northbound at the time. The black pickup and the cab of the 18-wheeler were demolished in the collision.

Lou Bower of Sachse was driving the pickup. His wife, Cytinera Bower, 57, was a passenger. Her head struck the windshield.

She received EMS transport to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur. Horton said she probably suffered a concussion in the crash.

The tractor-trailer was driven by Michael Wayne, 30, of Stark Oil Field Services. He suffered no injuries. The driver of the pickup received a citation for not stopping at a stop sign.
