Gary Emmert has announced his candidacy for Wise County Constable, Precinct 4, in the March 4 Republican Primary.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to return to public service in Wise County and more especially in Precinct 4," Emmert said in a press release.
Emmert and his family have lived in Wise County and Precinct 4 for 27 years. He and wife, Debra, own and operate a business in Precinct 4 called Cut n Inn and Club Barbell. The Emmerts moved to Precinct 4 in 1981 after his four-year tour of duty with the United States Marine Corp.
Emmert spent eight years working for Mitchell Energy Corporation while he finished college and raised a family.
He started out with the Wise County Sheriffs Department as a part-time jailer and moved through the ranks to the position of jailer over the work program. He helped build the work program and then moved to patrol deputy. While serving as a patrol deputy, Emmert was active in many community programs and helped develop the LETS program (Law Enforcement Teaching Students). While at the Sheriff Department, he also held the titles of patrol sergeant, criminal investigator, warrant service deputy, civil and criminal deputy and helped develop the department's policy and procedure on crime scene investigation. He also helped develop the Wise County Crime watch program and started the Boy Scouts of America Wise County Explorer Post.
While at the sheriff's department, Emmert worked for former sheriff Phil Ryan and received awards for patrol deputy of the year, investigator of the year and received the Rook Ramsey award.
Emmert served approximately four years on the Cross Timbers Narcotics Task Force, where he received an award for outstanding service, and on The North Texas Narcotics Task Force.
He has more than 1,500 hours in specialized training covering drug lab identification, criminal investigation, warrant service and processing, with over 20 years of service in the field.
Emmert is now employed with a major oil field company as their regional safety coordinator and is a reserve police officer.
"I work and live with all of you and probably shared a glass of tea from time to time with you. I look forward to putting my public service experience to work for you, the people of Precinct 4 and Wise County," Emmert said.
