Youth Fair 2008: FCCLA Queen Contestants

Amanda Williams
Amanda Williams, 17, will represent the Boyd FCCLA at this year's queens contest.
She is the daughter of Annette and Rafe Williams.
Amanda is a member of the FCA, FFA, FCCLA and is senior class president.
She is also a member of varsity basketball, varsity track, softball and golf, the Texas Stars, a Youth Council Leader at First United Methodist Church, the FUMC Youth Band and competed on the district level in math and science in the UIL.
Her service experience includes time on the Boyd Buzz Basketball Coach performance team and the Boyd Food Pantry where she stocks food in the warehouse.
Amanda's talents, awards and honors include the annual science award, the National Honor Society, newspaper editor, first team all district basketball, district defensive MVP, district champions in basketball district 10-2A, regional semi-finalist for varsity basketball, All Wise County (first team basketball, awarded by county newspaper editors), District Newcomer of the Year (varsity softball, selected by district softball coaches) and All Wise County (first team softball, awarded by county newspaper editors).
Laura Renee Nordman
Laura Renee Nordman, 17, of Bridgeport, will represent the Paradise FCCLA chapter in this year's queens contest.
She is the daughter of Joel and Kathryn Nordman.
She currently serves as secretary of FCCLA and is also involved with FFA. She has been named to the honor roll and her hobbies include swimming, crafts, cooking and shopping.
Her interests include the Mavericks, baking, movies and music.
Laura's best friends are Jennifer Halbert and Shannon Sutton and her favorite subject is government. She enjoys playing basketball and watching football.
She attends Decatur Church of Christ.
Marilyn Gutierrez
Marilyn Gutierrez, 15, of Slidell will represent Slidell's FCCLA chapter in this year's queens contest.
She is the daughter of Ramon and Elida Gutierrez.
Marilyn participates in basketball, softball, track, cross country and rides horses.
She enjoys listening to music, hanging out with her cousin and best friend, Katrina Verdugo.
Jessie Lynch
Jessie Lynch, 17, of Alvord, will represent Alvord FCCLA in this year's queens contest.
She is the daughter of Kelly and Brenda Lynch of Alvord.
She is currently a senior at Alvord High School
Jessie has been a member of FCCLA for four years and is the chapter president. She served as treasurer her junior year and project chairman her freshman and sophomore years. She received Youth Fair Grand Champion honors for a pie in 2006.
She has been a member of FCA for four years, band for one year and NHS for three years, currently serving as vice president. She has been a member of Spanish Club for four years, serving as president her junior year and officer this year. Jessie has served as class historian since her sophomore year and was president her freshman year.
Jessie has been a varsity cheerleader for three years and played basketball her freshman and sophomore years. She has participated in varsity cross country for the last four years, advancing to the regional meet each year and placing third and fourth at the state meet. She is currently participating in her fourth year of track and her second year of golf.
During her senior year she participated in One Act Play and was named Miss AHS. She was a homecoming nominee her freshman year, a class favorite her freshman and sophomore year and was named most attractive her junior year.
Her volunteer work includes sponsoring a child's birthday at the Pythian Home, bell ringing for UNICEF and working at Sonflower Camp.
She plans to attend Texas A&M University in the fall and pursue a major in elementary education.
Her favorite sport is cross country and her favorite subject is English. She enjoys wakeboarding. Her best friend is Megan Dupre. She has three sisters, Leah, Macy and Madison, and a dog named Dodge. She works at Sweetie Pie's Ribeyes.
Ashley Watkins
Bridgeport High School's FCCLA chapter will be represented by Ashley Watkins of Runaway Bay in the 2008 queen's contest.
Ashley, 18, is the daughter of Rocky Watkins of Runaway Bay.
She is a member of FCCLA and student council. Math and economics are her favorite subjects. Her favorite sport is tennis.
She attends the youth group at her church and strives to become more active with the church.
Ashley enjoys playing violin, a hobby she began in the Fourth Grade.
Following high school, she plans to pursue a master's degree in accounting at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Tara Smith
Chico High School's FCCLA chapter will be represented by Tara Smith. Tara is the 16-year-old daughter of Tammy Sanders of Chico.
She serves as the president of FCCLA and is a member of Beta Club.
She enjoys reading and aspires to be an X-ray technician.
