Youth Fair 2008: 4-H Queen Contestants

Georgia Exner

Georgia Exner, 18, of Paradise, will represent the Wise County 4-H Rabbit Club in this year's queens contest.

She is the daughter of Matt and Teresa Exner.

Georgia is a senior taking classes through Lighthouse Christian Academy. She enjoys spending time with her little sister, Grace, and helping with Grace's Girl Scout troop. Georgia enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with her rabbits. Right now, she is restoring an old muscle car with her dad. She is a member of the Wise County 4-H Rabbit Club.

She is also very active in the Denton Bible Youth Choir. Georgia plans to attend the University of North Texas to become an occupational therapist so she can work as a missionary with special needs orphans in Russia.

Olivia Bettesworth

Olivia Bettesworth, 12, of Paradise will represent the Paradise 4-H Club in this year's queens contest.

She is the daughter of Eric and Tomi Sue Bettesworth.

Olivia was in the Garden Club. She loves to play basketball, volleyball and softball. Olivia loves showing her goats in 4-H. She is taking Spanish this year and learning how to play the guitar. Olivia loves riding her paint horse, Minnie. She is active in church activities at Grace Fellowship. Olivia's favorite subject is social studies. Her favorite hobby is scrapbooking and she loves to swim.

Olivia's best friend is her Jack Russell, Betsey Lulu.

Andrea Martinets

Andrea Martinets, 16, of Bridgeport will represent the Bridgeport 4-H at this year's queens contest.

Andrea has been a member of the Bridgeport 4-H Club since 2004 and serves as secretary. She raised and showed Saanen dairy goats for the first two years and is now involved in her local 4-H speech club. Andrea is also actively involved in the clothing and textiles department. She enjoys fashion designing and construction and she has also participated in many community service projects.

Having been home schooled since the second grade, Andrea is involved in many other activities. She has played the piano for eight years and the cello for six years. For three years Andrea participated in the Fort Worth Youth Symphony.

Andrea loves riding and training her horses and art is another one of her hobbies. Every summer she takes art lessons from Melanie Singleton in Bridgeport. Andrea has won second place for her art work at the Fort Worth Stock Show and has won numerous other awards in past youth fairs. Her favorite art mediums are pastels, oils, charcoal and pencil.

Other activities include volunteering at her vet's office every Saturday, spending time with her friends and being part of the Eta Sigma Alpha National Honor's Society. Andrea is a member of the Heritage Family Church and enjoys participating in different church activities.

Andrea has four younger sisters and two younger brothers and is always looking forward to doing things with her family.

Sydney Lawrence

Sydney Lawrence, 17, of Decatur, will represent the Wise County 4-H Horse Club at this year's queens contest.

Sydney runs cross-country and track at Decatur High School, plays volleyball and is a member of SADD, FCA, NHS and the Spanish Honor Society. She also participates in mock trial. She is a member of both the Wise County Horse Club and the Decatur 4-Club. She also attends First United Methodist Church of Decatur.

Morgan Henry

Morgan Henry, 17, of Decatur will represent the Decatur 4-H at this year's queens contest.

She is the daughter of Tammy and Mike Henry.

Morgan's activities include club president, state qualifier livestock judging, area qualifier ag issues, Decatur varsity choir member and FFA member.

She enjoys shopping, showing lambs and hanging out with her friends.

Rachael Bland

Rachael Bland, 18, of Greenwood will represent the Slidell/Greenwood 4-H in this year's queens contest.

She is the daughter of Susan and Benny Bland.

Rachael enjoys playing softball, riding horses, going to the rodeo and showing lambs. She is an officer with the FFA Club. She also enjoys FFA judging, cooking, riding ATV's, talking on the phone and hanging out with her family and friends. Rachael enjoys playing with and helping her 7-year-old sister.

She has been the president, secretary and held all other offices for her local 4-H Club. She has served as a county council representative for her Slidell Club.

Beth Ferguson

Beth Ferguson, 18, of Chico will represent the Chico 4-H in this year's queens contest.

She is the daughter of Tom and Ann Ferguson.

Beth's hobbies include fishing and reading. Shelby Collins is her favorite friend because she "is enthusiastic and fun." Basketball and golf are Beth's favorite sports, while government is her favorite subject.

Beth has been a member of 4-H for 10 years and has served as president, twice as vice president secretary, treasurer, historian and recreation leader. Her honors in the organization include the Silver Star Award, Outstanding Senior 4-H Award, Outstanding Community Senior 4-H Award, Outstanding Junior 4-H Award, Outstanding Junior Community 4-H Award, the Herdsman Award, Grand Champion Dairy Wether WCYF, Best Doe of Show-WCYF, Second Place Floral Picture-state round up and Best Junior Doe of Show-WCYF.

Her other organization's include the Beta Club (three years), where she served twice as secretary and treasurer; UIL Academics (three years); volleyball (four years) co-captain her senior year; track (two years); golf (one year); band-marching and contest (three years) saxophone section leader; math and science club (one year); Ascension/St. Marks Youth Group: Senior Leader (three years); Goat Project Teen Leader (one year).

Beth will attend Sam Houston State University in Huntsville in the fall and pursue a bachelor of science in criminal justice.

She has one brother, Josh, and one sister, Rachel.

Saffron Smith

Saffron Sunshine Smith, 13, of Boyd, will represent the Boyd 4-H in this year's queens contest.

She is the daughter of Scarlet Sunset Sear.

Saffron's hobbies include horseback riding, raising Angora goats and collecting Barbie Dolls. Her honors include A-B honor roll-sixth-grade home school student. Saffron's interests include spending time with family and friends, playing with her large collection of animals and playing football, basketball, softball and volleyball.

Her favorite sports are volleyball and football, her favorite friend is her younger brother, Sequoia, and her favorite subject is math. She is a member of the Boyd 4-H and is in the youth group at Aurora Baptist Church.

Saffron's other activities include dog-sitting for her neighbors, working as a ranch hand on her sister's Angora goat ranch and showing Angora goats at C.A.G.B.A.-sanctioned events. When time permits, she also runs barrels and poles with her paint horse Hummer at the Salt Creek arena.

Kandi Rose

Kandi Rose, 11, of Sunset, will represent the 4-H of Alvord at this year's queens contest.

She is the daughter of Krystal Rose.

Kandi enjoys fishing, hunting, basketball, softball, cheerleading/KidPops, and math and science.
