Republicans draw for ballot order

Early voting for the March primary elections is still a month away, but some candidates might have already won a minor victory - having their name listed first on the ballot.
The Wise County Republican Party recently held a drawing to determine the order of appearance on the ballot for candidates in the March 4 primary, according to outgoing party Chairman D.A. Sharpe.
Republican ballot positions, in order from top to bottom, for district, county or precinct races will be:
County attorney - James M. Stainton, Marilyn J. Belew, Thomas Aaberg.
Sheriff - David Walker, David Allen
Commissioner, Pct. 1 - Danny White, Cory J. Schwenn, Robert Rankin, John Wayne Peterson
Constable, Pct. 3 - Douglas Parr, Wingate Kay Williams
Constable, Pct. 4 - Kevin Huffman, Carl David Shawn, Gary Emmert
The Wise County Democratic Party does not have any contested races in the primary.
Voters have until Feb. 4 to register to vote in the March 4 primary. Early voting will be Feb. 19 to 29. Voters cast ballots accordiing to party affiliations.
In case no candidate receives 50 percent plus one vote in the primary, a runoff election will be held on April 8.
