With Superintendent Tom Ferguson retiring from his position at the end of the school year, the Chico ISD school board had to find a temporary replacement.
The board appointed Kenneth Manning to serve as the interim superintendent until the board completes its search for a permanent replacement.
Ferguson announced last month his plan for retirement after spending 25 years in public education, most of those at Chico.
"I have no doubt about it that he is the best choice for the district," Ferguson said of Manning.
"He knows the district well and has worked in this position before."
Manning served as the superintendent of Chico ISD for four years before Ferguson was appointed four years ago.
The board agreed to pay Manning $443 per day to serve in the position.
It is unknown how long he will work for the district.
The district is also in the process of searching for a new elementary school principal.
