Election time again

Early voting begins Monday for city, school elections

Early voting for the May 10 election begins Monday at area schools and cities and will run through Tuesday, May 6.

Wise County voters will cast ballots in five school board, two city council/mayor and three school bond elections.

In Decatur, voters will decide between Marty Keller and Jeff Alling for Place 4 on the school board. Also on the ballot is a $27.9 million bond issue that would pay for a new elementary school, new transportation facility, technology and maintenance and renovations at current facilities.

Early voting is at Decatur City Hall weekdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. except on April 29 and May 6 when voting will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Voters in the Northwest school district will also have a couple of items to decide. In the school board election, two seats drew a contested race. Joe Montero and Devonna Holland are running for Place 5 while Brent Stephens and Mel Fuller seek the Place 7 seat. Also on the ballot is a $260 million bond issue that would pay for eight new schools, technology, improvements to current facilities, the purchase of land for future schools and new educational programs.

Wise County voters in precincts 24 and 25 can vote early at Newark City Hall, 310 FM 718, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Wise County voters in precincts 6 and 27 may vote early at Rhome City Hall, 105 West First St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Extended voting hours of 7 a.m.-7 p.m. will be held Tuesdays, April 29 and May 6 at both locations.

On May 10, precincts 24 and 25 may vote at the Newark Community Center. Precincts 6 and 27 will vote at Rhome Community Center. Polling will be from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

The Paradise school district also has a $9 million bond issue on the May ballot which would include money for a new early childhood center, expansion of the junior high school, improvements to the intermediate school, security upgrades and additions and upgrades to the high school and other facilities district-wide.

Early voting will be held at the Paradise ISD administration office each weekday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays, April 28 and May 5.

In Alvord, Tracy Lodes and Kerry Clower are running for Place 6 on the school board, and Calvin Baker and Jeanette Ward are running for Place 7.

Early voting will be weekdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. beginning Monday, April 28 through Tuesday, May 6, at Alvord City Hall. Extended hours will be from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesdays, April 29 and May 6.

Pam Galloway and Annette Williams are running for Place 2 on the Boyd School Board. Early voting takes place weekdays at Boyd City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Extended voting hours will be offered from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 30 and May 5.

The Chico School Board has eight candidates seeking three seats. Mike Maddux, Audie Morris and Keith Blanks are running for Place 4; Mark Tate, G.A. Buckner and Bradley North are seeking Place 6; and Craig Moss and Johnny McDaniel are running for Place 7.

Early voting takes place on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chico City Hall.

The only two city council/mayor races will take place in south Wise County. In Rhome, Derry Shannon Jones Jr., Gerry McBride, Jo Ann Rucker Wilson, Patty Robison and Jesus Valdez are running for two at-large seats. Mark Lorance, David Wilson and Brandon Davis are running for mayor.

Early voting will be at Rhome City Hall weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Extended hour days are April 29 and May 6 when polls will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

In Newark, Bonnie J. Neal, Troy Arnold and Matthew Newby are running for Place 1 and Jerry Davidson and Rusty Arnold Stierwalt Jr. are seeking Place 2.

Early voting takes place on weekdays from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Newark City Hall. Extended voting hours are offered from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on April 29 and May 6.
