Each year, the second week in April is dedicated to telecommunicators. Congress made the National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week proclamation official in the early 1990s because the telecommunicators are the first point of contact, the unseen first responders, with the public. They are trained to be prepared for the unexpected and unimaginable.
The National 911 Education Month was endorsed by Congress in March 2008. National 911 Education Month is a national effort to educate children, seniors and the general public about the importance of and the appropriate use of 911.
I value each of you personally and professionally! The jobs you do for not only the Bridgeport Police Department, but for the Citizens of Bridgeport is extraordinary! Each of you answer phones, monitor radio channels, dispatch calls, enter warrants, watch over the holding facility, prepare bond paperwork, monitor security cameras and the weather radar and are responsible for logging a multitude of things, including the fire/EMS departments.
As patrol is the backbone of the police department, you are the central nerve center. You do a great job under very demanding conditions! I appreciate every weekend, holiday and birthday you spend here at the department, doing your job.
Thank you for all your hard work and effort!
Steve Stanford Lieutenant/Acting Police Chief, Bridgeport Police Department
