John McCain is applying for a job as leader of our country and no doubt Wise County voters will support him. Voting against their best interest is something Wise County will continue doing long after the rest of the country changes course. I accept what I cannot change, move on to what I can and take comfort that the tide is turning.
Yet, my serenity was shattered last week when McCain said, after voting against a fair pay bill, that the pay gap between men and women isn't due to discrimination. He said that women just need more education and training.
Pondering this statement at considerable length, I find no way around the outrage.
A 2005 study by the General Accounting Office found no change in the pay gap between men and women despite increased levels of education among women.
Any woman who votes for this misogyny gets what she deserves. The rest of us deserve better!
