Bridgeport takes sales tax lead

Bridgeport jumped ahead in monthly sales tax rebates this month by collecting $361,379, the largest rebate in the county.
Bridgeport's share is 68 percent more than the city received at this time a year ago.
For the year, Bridgeport is up 52 percent, at $1,075.204, more than any city in the county.
Decatur earned $266,724 in March, an 8 percent increase over March 2007. Decatur's total for the year is $941,242, up 10 percent over a year ago.
Big increases were felt by the cities of Aurora, up 156 percent at $2,939; Boyd, up 117 percent at $35,013; and New Fairview, up 112 percent at $51,586.
Alvord had the only decrease among Wise County cities. Alvord's share, $4,896, represented a 22 percent decrease from 2007 at this time.
March payments primarily represent sales that occurred in January and were reported to the state in February.
State sales tax revenue in February totaled $1.79 billion, up almost 9 percent compared to February 2007. March sales tax payments amounted to $293 million, up more than 9 percent compared to March 2007.
