Bridgeport leads county in sales tax

Bridgeport continued its stronghold on the sales tax record as the city once again led all others in the county in monthly sales tax rebates.
Bridgeport received $337,079 in November, a 34 percent increase over this time a year ago. The rebate represents sales tax revenue in October and paid to taxing entities in November. For the year, the city has earned $3,212,872, a 27 percent increase over the 2006 year to date total of $2,532,408.
The city of Decatur is still in the lead for the year, although finishing second to Bridgeport in the monthly allocation.
Decatur earned $329,526 in October, a nine percent increase over October 2006. Decatur has earned $3,220,706 this year, a 10 percent increase over a year ago at this time.
Chico's October revenue was up 168 percent over last year, at $87,166. New Fairview's rebates continued to reflect healthy increases.
The city received $32,557 in November, a 94 percent increase over last year. For the year, New Fairview has earned $329,368, up 101 percent over $163,578 at this time last year.
Decreases in sales tax revenue were felt by half the cities in the county, in Alvord, Aurora, Lake Bridgeport, Newark, Rhome and Runaway Bay.
The county received $420,293, a 28 percent increase over October 2006.
Statewide, $1.65 billion in sales tax revenue was collected in October, a three percent increase over a year ago. Taxing entities received $525 million in November.
