Bridgeport again leads in sales tax revenue for county

Bridgeport continued to lead the county in sales tax rebates in September, earning $380,631 to bring the city's yearly total to almost $2.3 million.
Bridgeport's share of the sales tax is 64 percent above what the city received in September 2006. For the year, Bridgeport has experienced a 26 percent growth in sales tax.
Decatur's share of the September rebate amounted to $280,379, 18 percent more than the city received at this time last year. For the year, Decatur has earned more than $2.6 million, an 11 percent increase over 2006.
New Fairview again had the largest percentage gain, at 272 percent. The city received $42,649, compared to $11,469 earned in September 2006. New Fairview has received $296,811 so far this year, a 102 percent increase over last year.
Boyd had a 108 percent increase in September, earning $31,863 and bringing the yearly total to $239,403. Boyd's share is up 40 percent on the year.
Five Wise County cities' sales tax rebates declined in September, including Alvord,- 61 percent; Chico, -23 percent; Lake Bridgeport -45 percent; Rhome -2 percent and Runaway Bay, -3 percent.
The state took in $1.62 billion in sales tax in September, a 7 percent increase over September 2006. State Comptroller Susan Combs sent $443.7 million in monthly sales tax payments to taxing entities, up 6.87 percent compared to last year at this time.
September sales tax collections and October allocations of local tax revenue represent sales that occurred in August and were reported to the comptroller in September.
