Birth of a paper

The Wise County Messenger announces the birth of a paper, This Justin, born Friday, April 27, 2012, in Bowie (where the paper is printed). It was 14 pages long. It has three sister publications, the Wise County Messenger, Update and All Around Wise, all of Wise County.

You may have seen some references to This Justin on this blog or come across its website, thisjustintexas.com. It’s a separate publication from the Messenger, and unless you live in Justin, you probably won’t see the actual newspaper around Wise County. It’s mailed to everyone with a Justin zip code.

Still, it’s been cause for a lot of “proud pappas and mommas” around here, particularly those working closely on the creation of the publication. I even went by Wise Regional Health System last Thursday morning and bought some bubble gum cigars for our publisher to hand out. It only seemed fitting since the day before, when the paper was being built, I kept hearing birthing references around the office.

I just want Wise County readers to know that this new paper won’t be taking resources from the local products you’ve (hopefully) come to know and love over the years. But we hope that our new readers in the Justin area know that we are committed to covering their community as well. It’s kind of like when you have a second child. You love your first child with all your heart, just as you love your second with all your heart. To paraphrase our local major league baseball manager, “That’s the way family go.” It’s sort of the same thing with our newest addition.

This Justin, by the way, will be published every other week. News is posted more regularly on the website. Check it out if you have time.
