Hero worship has distorted our priorities

I don’t care much for pro sports. It’s hard for me to get into it. It lacks the heart found at the high school and college level. Which is understandable considering it’s just a business.

Where are our priorities as a nation? Professions that really matter, like teachers, paramedics and firefighters, just make enough to survive. Meanwhile, Bubba Watson earned millions over the weekend for knocking a ball into a hole in the ground in Augusta. How did Bubba learn to read? What’s Bubba gonna do if his house catches on fire?

We are a society based on hero worship. The athletes, actors, musicians and rock star CEOs earn the largest of the lion’s share. Entertainment serves an important role for sure, but not to the level we’ve elevated it to.

Although every kid dreams of going pro let’s be thankful that for the vast majority it remains a dream, and most kids grow up to do something more important for society. Cause nothing is gonna happen to the teacher or firefighter if Bubba doesn’t win the Masters.
