A story in the Saturday, March 17, issue of the paper features the Haire family of Alvord and their journey, as a family, as their oldest son, Randy, recovers from a suicide attempt.
It was no easy to task to spill the painful details of their situation and the circumstances that pushed Randy over the edge. But the family felt sharing their story could help in their financial constraints and as a form of therapy.
More importantly, they opened up in the hope that by sharing their story, they could help someone in a situation similar to that of their beloved Randy.
And it worked. Last week, the family received a call from an area school counselor saying they had been approached by a student who was having suicidal thoughts. Reading Randy’s story helped changed those. Now the families are arranging to meet to provide one another support.
