PROTEST DEADLINE – Don’t forget, if you want to protest your property values with the Wise County Appraisal District, today is the last day to file. Last year, Chief Appraiser Mickey Hand’s office received 12,600 protests with 4,600 residential protest requests. The balance were in protest of mineral values. Hand expects another 4,000 protest requests this year from homeowners.

JUST A TEST – The City of Decatur will test storm sirens at noon today.

AIR POLLUTION DAY – For the second day in a row, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Wise County. Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution in the area.

HORSE CLUB – The Wise County 4-H Horse Club will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the NRS training center classroom.

CLEAN UP DAY – The City of Lake Bridgeport City Clean Up is 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday for city residents. The truck will be in front of city hall.

CEMETERY MEETING – Pleasant Hill Cemetery’s annual meeting is Saturday. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by the annual business meeting.

BOY SCOUT EVENT RESCHEDULED – The Boy Scouts Friends of Scouting Wise County event originally scheduled for Friday has been rescheduled for Monday, June 24.

STORY TIME – The Rhome Public Library will host Story Time Hour every Wednesday at 11 a.m. The new story time leader is Deb Duckwall, who is starting a literary-based program. All preschool-age children are welcome to attend. Stories, crafts and snacks are provided. Call 817-636-2767.

RETIREMENT RECEPTION – Alvord ISD is hosting a come and go retirement reception honoring Coach Pete Hart 4-6 p.m. today in the Alvord High School cafeteria. There will be cake and punch.

GRADUATION 2019 – The Wise County Messenger’s annual Graduation special section featuring stories with all our local valedictorians and salutatorians is included in the midweek paper on newsstands today.

FUNERALS – Service for Shirley E. McWhirter, 80, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

GRAVESIDE for Ruth Elizabeth Pearson, the infant daughter of Jordan and Lexie Pearson of Springtown, is 11 a.m. Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Memorial is 1 p.m. Saturday at U-Turn World Ministries Church in Chico. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Lloyd Grimes Jr., 83, of Newark is 4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Newark. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Laura Milena Rueda, 47, of Rhome is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

SERVICE for Betty Edgington, 94, of Chico is pending at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

SERVICE for Janice Derrington, 75, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones-Bridgeport with burial at noon Saturday at Cottonwood Cemetery in Bryson.

SERVICE for John Warren Sibley, 76, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Friday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst is handling arrangements.
