COACH HART RETIRING – Long-time local high school coach Pete Hart has announced he is retiring after 33 years of coaching between Bridgeport, Chico and Alvord high schools. Hart said he informed the football team of his decision to step down Tuesday, and wanted to wait until they knew before making the announcement public. “I do feel at peace with the decision,” Hart said. “I’m still a big Alvord Bulldog fan.” Hart spent the past five seasons at Alvord, compiling a 23-33 record. The Bulldogs finished second in District 4-2A Division I last year and made the playoffs each season since Hart became head coach in 2014. His retirement will be effective June 30.

FREE CONCERT – The Chico Public Library will sponsor a performance by the duo Hungrytown at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Arcadia Theater in Bridgeport. The duo has made numerous television appearances in their careers.

RODEO TICKETS – Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 performance of the PRCA Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo are on sale for $30 at Decatur Chamber of Commerce office, 308 W. Main.

READING DOG – Ava the Reading Dog Tutor will be at the Rhome Public Library 3-5 p.m. today. Call the library to schedule your reading slot. Ava is a licensed therapy dog who loves to listen to independent reading. This is a way to get your child reading aloud. Call 817-636-2767.

SCHOOL BOARD INFORMATION SESSION – Decatur ISD will conduct a School Board Information Session for citizens interested in running for an elected position on the board of trustees 6-7 p.m. today at the Administration Building, 307 S. Cates. The program will be conducted by the superintendent and representatives from the current board of trustees. The purpose is to familiarize potential candidates with the basic operation of the school district, the role of school board members and the election process. The next school board election is May 4. This informational workshop is offered at no charge to all Decatur residents who are eligible to run for a school board seat. MOTHER-SON DANCE – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation’s “Mother-Son Dance” is 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport Community Center. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at city hall or bridgeport.recdesk.com. The theme this year is “Mom is my Superhero!” Come dressed as your favorite hero.

ACADEMY APPLICATIONS – Northwest ISD’s career academies and CTE – career and technical education – pathways are now accepting enrollment request for the 2019-20 school year. The CTE program is focused on students working alongside experienced and professional instructors in high-tech career academies and programs. Students can submit their enrollment request to an academy or pathway by visiting www.nisdtx.org/cte and clicking the “CTE Academy/Pathway Request for Enrollment” link highlighted in yellow. For priority placement, request must be submitted no later than Jan. 15.

MASS of Christian burial for Guadalupe Galindo, 72, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Saturday at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 5-7 p.m. with rosary said at 7 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Chapel in Decatur.

GRAVESIDE for Paul Fincher, 63, of Fort Worth is 11 a.m. Monday at Aurora Cemetery. Family visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Chapel in Boyd.

SERVICE for Herman Franklin Dowdy, 77, of Bridgeport is pending at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
