SHUTDOWN RELIEF – Wise Area Relief Mission (WARM), a partner agency of Tarrant Area Food Bank, is ready to help those impacted by the government shutdown. Visit www.warmtx.org or call 940-626-4676 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.

BLOOD DRIVE – Wise Health System will host a blood drive 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday in the hospital parking lot. Call Melissa Richardson at 940-626-0167.

HIGH SCHOOL ORIENTATION – Decatur High School will host RISE UP 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday beginning in the auditorium and finishing in the cafeteria. This is a mini-orientation for upcoming freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors (9th-11th). Students and parents will hear about 4-year plans, campus life, clubs and extra-curricular activities offered at DHS.

GT APPLICATIONS – Nominations are being accepted for kindergarten students for the Paradise Gifted and Talented program. The deadline is next Tuesday. Nomination forms are available from teachers or can be downloaded at pisd.net. Contact Carla Gentry, 940-696-5046 or cgentry@pisd.net.

NURSING HOME MEDICAID Q&A – Decatur Medical Lodge will hold a Q&A with attorney C. Dan Campbell, PC, of Wichita Falls 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday. The event is free for anyone interested in learning more about how to qualify for Nursing Home Medicaid for Long Term Care. To reserve spots or for information call Denise Dennis at 940-626-2800. These sessions have been standing room only, so reserve early.

LIBRARY PROGRAMS – Chico Public Library will host 1, 2, 3 Play with Me for infants and toddlers to age 4 10:30-11:30 a.m. today. The library’s Stitch It! group will follow at noon. For more information contact Michelle at 940-644-2330.

COMMUNITY GARDEN CLASS – Community Garden Classes at the Decatur Public Library are 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursdays from Jan. 24-Feb. 28. Anyone interested in helping with the library’s community garden is invited to share their time, gardening expertise or to learn about gardening. Registration is required. YOUTH FAIR DATES – Entry dates for the 2019 Wise County Youth Fair are Jan. 1-Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. The Entry Clinic will be held 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Decatur Ag Science Building. Youth Fair Queen’s contest entry forms are due by Feb. 2. Scholarship applications are due and must be post marked by Feb. 8. WCYF Parade will be on Saturday, Feb. 23. Forms are due by Feb. 15. HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – The Wise County Historical Society will hold their monthly meeting at noon Thursday in the auditorium of the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Speaker this month is Carmelina Holloway of Decatur. Lunch will be served, so RSVP to the museum at 940-627-5586 by noon today if you plan to attend the luncheon.

SERVICE for Earl Burdine, 75, of Alvord will be held at a later date. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

PRIVATE family service for Danny Erwin, 75, of Bridgeport will be held at a later date. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Clint Parker, 32, of Boyd, is 2 p.m. today at Friendship Baptist Church in Boyd. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE for Glen Baker, 94, of Archer City, formerly of Boyd, is 2 p.m. Thursday at Long Branch Cemetery in Nocona. Hawkins-Boyd is handling arrangements.
