BREZINA ENTERS ‘NOT GUILTY’ PLEA – Decatur resident Ronnie Lee Brezina entered a plea of “not guilty” at his arraignment on a charge of capital murder Monday at the Wise County Courthouse. Brezina was indicted in March for killing his estranged girlfriend, 45-year-old Brandy Wallen of Decatur, while in the course of committing or attempting to commit the offenses of kidnapping and robbery on Jan. 7 of this year at a local business. No trial date has been set. Brezina remains in the Wise County Jail.

DECATUR ISD ELECTS OFFICERS – Charlie Tibbels was named the new Decatur ISD School Board president Monday night. Matt Joiner is the vice president and Jennifer Wren board secretary.

BOYD ISD TRUSTEES ACCEPT SUPERINTENDENT RESIGNATION – Boyd ISD trustees accepted the resignation of superintendent Ted West Monday night, effective June 14. West is expected to sign a contract Monday to become the superintendent in Electra. The board voted to keep Bill Childress as its president. Kyle Erwin is the vice president and Trae Luttrell board secretary.

MURDER TRIAL RESCHEDULED – The trial of William Oakes, the Rhome teenager accused of shooting and killing his father two years ago, has been rescheduled for later this year. The murder trial had been scheduled to begin today in 271st District Court in Decatur, but Oakes’ attorney, Reagan Wynn, filed a motion for continuance Monday due to a medical issue that began late last week and continued into this week. The trial has been rescheduled for Sept. 10.

DECATUR COUNCIL REORGANIZATION – The Decatur City Council yesterday voted to make Jay Davidson mayor pro tem and Mike McQuiston deputy mayor pro tem. Mayor Martin Woodruff will continue to serve as a representative to the North Central Texas Council of Governments, and new council member Jake Hayes was selected as airport liaison.

SENIOR MEALS – Wise County Committee on Aging is presenting group meals every Tuesday in May for senior citizens ages 60 and above. Meals are held in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church of Decatur (use the Pecan Street entrance) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Make your reservation by calling WCCA at 940-627-5329. There is no charge for the meal, but donations are welcome.

SCV MEETING – The Sons of Confederate Veterans meet 7 tonight in the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur.

DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Wise County Democratic Party will meet 6:30 p.m. today at the Decatur Conference Center (in the Chisholm Suites). PARADISE HISTORICAL SOCIETY – The Paradise Historical Society with have their bi-monthly meeting 7 tonight at the fellowship hall of the First Methodist Church in Paradise. Guest speaker will be Dr. Paul Utley, superintendent of Paradise ISD. He will be sharing “Paradise ISD – Past, Present and Future.”
