LAST DAY TO VOTE EARLY – Today is the last day of early voting in Saturday’s city and school elections. Polling locations will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. today. Contested races are featured for Alvord School Board, Aurora City Council, Bridgeport City Council, Chico City Council, Decatur City Council, Decatur School Board and Northwest School Board.

RAIN CHANCES RETURN – Today’s forecast includes a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, and some storms could be severe, according to the National Weather Service. Rain chances continue daily through the rest of the week.

SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS – The Decatur Lady Eagles will play Graham in the 4A Region I area round. Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday in Decatur. Game 2 will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in Graham. Game 3, if necessary, would be Friday. A time and location have not been determined. The Alvord Lady Bulldogs will play Bosqueville in the 2A Region II area round. The two schools will play a one-game series at 6 p.m. Friday at Crowley High School.

BASEBALL PLAYOFFS – The baseball playoffs begin this week, and the Decatur Eagles will meet Glen Rose in the 4A Region I bi-district round. Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. Thursday in Glen Rose. Game 2 will be at 7 p.m. Friday in Decatur. Game 3, if necessary, would be at noon Saturday in Glen Rose. The Boyd Yellowjackets will square off with Bowie in the 3A Region I bi-district round. Game 1 will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Boyd. First pitch for Game 2 will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Bowie. Game 3, if necessary, would be in Boyd on Saturday. The time has not been determined. The Paradise Panthers and Holliday Eagles will do battle in the 3A Region I bi-district round. The three-game series will be played in Graham. Game 1 will be at 6 p.m. Thursday. Game 2 is slated for 5 p.m. Friday. Game 3, if necessary, would immediately follow Game 2 at 7:30 p.m. Alvord rounds out the Wise County baseball teams in the playoffs. The Bulldogs will play Archer City in the 2A Region II bi-district round. The three-game series will be played at Hoskins Field in Wichita Falls. Game 1 will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Game 2 is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. Game 3, if necessary, would immediately follow Game 2.

LIBRARY CELEBRATION – The Decatur Public Library will host El dia de los ninos/El dia de los libros (Day of the Child/Day of the Book) celebration of childhood and literacy 4-7 p.m. today. The celebration will include crafts, fun and prizes. Call the library at 940-393-0290.

RELAY FOR LIFE – Wise County Relay for Life is 6-11 p.m. Friday on the Decatur Square. Luminarias for the event are $5 each. You can decorate your own bag or volunteers can do it for you. Luminarias can be dedicated to loved ones lost, someone currently battling cancer or anyone who has overcome cancer. They will be lit Friday night. Call Kathy Hughes at 940-255-2944.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY – Kids of all ages are invited to join the after school fun at the Chico Public Library 4-5 p.m. today. Participants will make and take unique flower mandalas. Call Michelle at 940-644-2330.

PRE-K, KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP – Alvord Elementary School will be holding pre-k and kindergarten roundup for the 2019-20 school year 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Pre-K children must be 4 years old as of Sept. 1. Kindergarten children must be 5 years old as of Sept. 1. Proof of residency (utility bill, etc.), birth certificate, Social Security card, current shot record, and driver’s license of the adult enrolling the child are required at the time of registration.

FUNERALS – Service for Calvin Woolaver, 94, of Decatur is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur with burial at Bethel Cemetery with a reception at Candlewood Suites in Decatur immediately following. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

MEMORIAL service for Sally Jo Browning, 70, of Fort Worth is 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Boyd. Family visitation will follow at the church. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Danny Lee Stafford, 66, of Paradise is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paradise Cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Richard C. Giller, 80, of Runaway Bay will be held at a later date in Johnson City. Jones-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
