HIGHTOWER ARRESTED FOR SOLICITATION – Boyd resident and former Wise County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Hightower was arrested yesterday as part of an undercover online solicitation operation involving multiple agencies in Denton County. According to the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, Hightower was one of 13 people arrested during the operation over the last week. The suspects who were arrested had agreed to meet a minor for sex at a local location, and 11 were arrested when they were met at the location by law enforcement. Two more were arrested by warrants after they agreed to meet but did not show up. Hightower was previously convicted in federal court in 2016 on two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law for improperly taking nude photos of sex offenders while working at the WCSO. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison followed by a year of supervised release in that previous case.

DUAL CREDIT INFORMATION MEETING – Decatur High School students interested in taking a dual credit course during the 2019-2020 school year are invited to attend an information session at 6:30 p.m. today in the auditorium. Representatives from Weatherford College will discuss course options and the enrollment process.

PAY YOUR TAXES – Wise County Tax Assessor/Collector Monte Shaw reminds citizens that today is the last day to pay county taxes without penalty or interest.

CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY – The Decatur Police Department will host a Citizens Police Academy class beginning Feb. 5. This free class will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30-9:30 for 13 weeks. 42 – Each Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. the Decatur Senior Center hosts a 42 tournament.

FUNERALS – Service for William “Bill” Edward Pedigo, 97, of Mountain Home, Ark., formerly of Runaway Bay, is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

NO SERVICE is planned for Marsha Van Epps, 72, of Bridgeport. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL for Eddie Collins, 88, of Fort Worth is 1 p.m. today at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

FUNERAL for Billy Ralph Smith, 78, is 11 a.m. Saturday at 2nd Mile Church in Fort Worth with burial at Chico Cemetery at 3 p.m. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst.
