KING NAMED COMMITTEE CHAIR – Representative Phil King, who represents Wise and Parker counties in the Texas House, has been named the committee chair for redistricting by new Speaker of the House Dennis Bonnen. King was also named to serve on the criminal jurisprudence and state affairs committees.

CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY – The Decatur Police Department will host a Citizens Police Academy class beginning Feb. 5. This free class will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30-9:30 for 13 weeks. DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE – The Decatur Junior Woman’s Club Daddy Daughter Dance is Feb. 2 at the Decatur Conference Center. Dance 1 will be held from 3-5 p.m. for VIP tickets or 3:30-5 p.m. for general admission. Dance 2 is 6-8 p.m. for VIP or 6:30-8 p.m. for general admission. VIP tickets are $60 per couple ($15 for additional daughter/dad) and general admission tickets are $50 per couple ($15 for additional daughter/dad). VIP’s will be allowed in the venue 30 minutes prior to the dance, reserved seating and an activity voucher. There will be heavy hors d’oeuvres, a live DJ, multiple photo ops, face painting and activities for everyone. BABY STORYTIME – The Decatur Public Library is having Baby Storytime 10:15 a.m. Friday. Babies age birth to 18 months will hear stories, interact with others, and have their imagination stimulated. Call the library at 940-393-0290.

HEALTH CARE SEMINAR – The Greater Runaway Bay Alliance and Stagecoach Rehab will host a Senior Healthcare Resource Seminar 6-8 tonight at the Norma Coble Civic Center in Runaway Bay. COMMUNITY GARDEN CLASS – Community Garden Classes at the Decatur Public Library are 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursdays from today through Feb. 28. Anyone interested in helping with the library’s community garden is invited to share their time, gardening expertise or to learn about gardening. Registration is required. HIGH SCHOOL ORIENTATION – Decatur High School will host RISE UP 6:30-8 tonight beginning in the auditorium and finishing in the cafeteria. This is a mini-orientation for upcoming freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors (9th-11th). Students and parents will hear about 4-year plans, campus life, clubs and extra-curricular activities offered at DHS.

FUNERALS – Service for Lee Edward Muncy, 77, of Slidell is 2:30 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Fellowship Church in Decatur with burial at Slidell Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

SERVICE for Thomas Nutt, 72, of Decatur is pending at Hawkins-Decatur.

GRAVESIDE for Glen Baker, 94, of Archer City, formerly of Bridgeport, is 2 p.m. today at Long Branch Cemetery in Nocona. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Linda Ann Carson Schertz, 68, of Greenwood is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton with interment at Plainview Cemetery in Krum. DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton is handling arrangements.
