WOMAN KILLED IN ROLLOVER WRECK – A woman was partially ejected from her Nissan sedan and killed Sunday night when she flipped her vehicle into the median on U.S. 81/287 just south of Decatur, according to Department of Public Safety Cpl. Lantz Elliot. DPS and Decatur Police responded to the crash around 9 p.m. Elliot said the woman and her 15-year-old son were traveling north on U.S. 81/287 when she became drowsy and fell asleep at the wheel. The woman veered onto the shoulder on the east side of the highway, overcorrected and crashed into the median. Her vehicle rolled several times, according to Elliot. Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Elliot said the woman was not wearing her seat belt. The 15-year-old boy was transported to Wise Health System with minor injuries and abrasions. Names are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

PUBLIC HEARING ON HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS – Texas Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing for Farm Road 51 and Texas 199 in Parker County Tuesday at the Springtown Senior Center, 1070 N. Main Street in Springtown. Exhibits may be reviewed beginning at 6 p.m. with the formal hearing beginning at 7. The proposed project would reconstruct FM 51 (Main Street) from Old Cottondale Road to Texas Drive, including a bridge replacement and adding a center turn lane on FM 51, and reconstruct the FM 51/Texas 199 intersection with additional turn lanes. Maps and other drawings depicting the projects will be displayed at the public hearing. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during the review period and offer comments.

DONATE GAS CARDS – Bridgeport Women’s Club invites you to participate in Fuel for a Cure. Donate gas cards to cancer patients in Wise County and surrounding areas. Gas cards will be given out on an as needed basis to assist patients in traveling to and from treatment. The cards can be dropped off throughout the month of February at The Cancer Center at Wise Health System or Legend Bank in Decatur. Call Laura Tanner at 940-626-2300, option 6, for information.

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP – The Wise Alzheimer’s Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the boardroom at Wise Health System’s West Campus in Decatur. Learn from others who have been there and share your experiences. For information, call Richard at 940-255-0244.

PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP – The Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 609 Medical Center Drive in Decatur. The meeting will include a guest speaker.

DIABETES CLASS – Total Diabetes Care at Wise Healthcare is now offering monthly diabetes education classes on the first Monday of the month at Wise Clinical Care, 2202 U.S. 380 Suite 112, in Bridgeport. This month’s class is at 3 p.m. today. The prediabetes class is at 4 p.m. The classes are intended to help educate those with diabetes better understand and manage the disease. DIRECTOR RETIRING – Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center will host a retirement reception honoring Executive Director Pat Slayton for 13 years of service to Wise Hope 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bridgeport Community Center.

FOOD DRIVE – Divine Center of Yoga in Decatur is holding a food drive for Wise Area Relief Mission (WARM) through Feb. 14. Cereal and peanut butter are particularly needed right now. The center is offering discounts on classes with a donation.
