MAN STRUCK, KILLED ON U.S. 380 – Jeffrey Scheller, 27, of Decatur was killed when he apparently walked in front of an eastbound 18-wheeler at the entrance of Imperial Fabrication on U.S. 380 east of Decatur around 8:45 Thursday morning. Scheller was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow. “At this point, it appears intentional,” Wise County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Craig Johnson said. “We’re conducting a joint investigation with the Department of Public Safety due to the unattended death and accident.” Johnson said from the information they’ve gathered, Scheller was an employee at Imperial and had been working just prior to the incident. Scheller’s body was sent to the Dallas County Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. Wise County EMS, Decatur Fire Department, DPS and the sheriff’s office responded to the scene. Funeral for Scheller is 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church Chico. Family visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

4 HURT IN DECATUR WRECK – A two vehicle wreck off U.S. 380 in Decatur left four with non life-threatening injuries Thursday. The driver of a Chevy Avalanche truck was turning on Business 380 just east of the Shell Gas Station in Decatur and failed to give right of way to a Toyota Sienna van which struck the truck, Decatur Police Sgt. Keith Hilton said. There were nine people inside the two vehicles. Four from the van, driven by 32-year-old Wichita Falls resident Henry Luu, were transported to receive medical attention. The driver of the truck, 64-year-old Paradise resident Koung Kim refused medical transport. Hilton, who was at the Shell gas station at the time of the wreck, said road conditions did not play a factor in the accident. Decatur Police, Decatur Fire, and Wise County EMS responded to the scene.

EDC ANNOUNCES FIRST TENANT AT BUSINESS PARK – The Decatur Economic Development Corp. Thursday afternoon announced the sale of 21.013 acres in the 162-acre development to Industrial Diesel, Inc. and Industrial Diesel Manufacturing to build a new 70,000-square-foot facility. The supplier of remanufactured high-horsepower engines for large off-highway projects to expand its operation will be the Eagles Landing Business Park’s first tenant. The EDC completed the purchase of the 162-acres north of Farm Road 2264, east of U.S. 81/287 from the Wise County Consortium LLC in April. The EDC received $5.5 million in bond proceeds in April to complete the purchase and award a $2.8 million contract with McMahon Contracting for the construction of infrastructure.

DISTRICT BASKETBALL BEGINS – The Decatur Lady Eagles and Bridgeport Sissies will start District 8-4A play tonight. Decatur hosts Springtown while Bridgeport hosts Argyle, the defending 4A state champion. Alvord and Chico will also open league play. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will travel to Muenster for the District 11-2A opener while the Dragons and Lady Dragons will host Era. Elsewhere, Boyd and Paradise will both have District 7-3A contests. The Yellowjackets and Lady Jackets will battle Peaster at home while the Panthers and Lady Panthers will host Brock. The Slidell Hounds and Lady Hounds will travel to Midway for a District 22-1A game. In Decatur, the Eagles will host Wichita Falls Rider in a non-district game. Bridgeport hosts Fort Worth Country Day.

RAIN REPORT – Rain totals from yesterday included 0.15 of an inch in Decatur and Alvord and 0.14 in Bridgeport. Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 54. High temperatures this weekend are expected to be in the mid-60s.

TRASH COLLECTION CHANGE – Due to the New Year’s holiday, normal Friday trash collection in Chico will be on Saturday this week. The schedule will return to normal next week.

SPORTSMAN’S BANQUET – The Decatur Youth Fair Buyers Association is having a Sportsman’s Banquet 6 p.m. Saturday at the Decatur Conference Center. There will a social hour, raffles and a silent auction starting at 6, followed by a steak dinner at 7 p.m. A live auction featuring hunting, fishing and other outdoor adventure-related items will be held at the end of the night.
