WATER DISTRICT PUBLIC HEARING ON RULE CHANGES – The Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District is proposing a 5-year transition period that would allow commissioner courts to approve the drilling of water wells on lots of at least 3.5 acres in its latest update of proposed rule changes. UTGCD will hold a public hearing on the updated proposed rules at 4 p.m. Monday at its office, 1859 West Texas 199 in Springtown. The district is looking to pass the rule changes in February. The district has proposed increasing the minimum tract size requirement for a well from two to five acres. UTGCD General Manager Doug Shaw said in a submitted article about the updated rules that the driving factor for the changes was to ensure that water availability into the future.

BASKETBALL SCHEDULE – Tonight’s local basketball action includes a number of big district matchups. In District 8-4A, Decatur hosts Krum while Bridgeport is at home against Springtown. In District 7-3A, Paradise hosts Jacksboro and Boyd is at home against Breckenridge. District 11-2A action includes Alvord taking on Windthorst at home and Chico hosting Poolville. In District 22-1A, Slidell travels to Bellevue.

DECATUR JR WOMAN’S CLUB SCHOLARSHIP – The Decatur Junior Woman’s Club is offering two $1,000 scholarships to any graduating Decatur High School or Victory Christian Academy senior. It is not GPA based and anyone is eligible to apply. The application is available at each school from the counselor and must be postmarked by April 19. Contact Alex Selby, 817-253-9893.

DINNER AND AUCTION – The Boyd Area Buyers Association will present the ninth Jimmy Ware Memorial dinner and auction from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Boyd High School cafetorium. The annual fundraiser benefits FFA, 4-H and FCCLA members through purchasing Wise County Youth Fair projects and awarding scholarship. Tickets are $15 for guests 13 and up and $10 for children 12 and under.

SCHOLARSHIP DINNER – An Enchilada Dinner to benefit the Zackery S. Loney Memorial Scholarship is 4:30-8 p.m. Friday in the Paradise High School Cafeteria. Dine and watch Paradise basketball vs. Jacksboro. Cost is $10 per plate and will feature enchiladas, rice and beans, chips and salsa, tea or water. Desserts will also be available for sale.

BABY STORYTIME – The Decatur Public Library is having Baby Storytime 10:15 a.m. today. Babies age birth to 18 months will hear stories, interact with others, and have their imagination stimulated. Call the library at 940-393-0290.

FUNERALS – Private family service for Thomas Nutt, 72, of Decatur will be held at a later date. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Lee Edward Muncy, 77, of Slidell is 2:30 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Fellowship Church in Decatur with burial at Slidell Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins-Decatur.

SERVICE for Eddie Collins, 88, of Fort Worth is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

SERVICE for Linda Ann Carson Schertz, 68, of Greenwood is 11 a.m. today at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton with interment at Plainview Cemetery in Krum. DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton is handling arrangements.
