MURDER ARREST – Ronnie Brezina, 63, of Decatur was arrested Thursday in a hospital room at Medical City Denton on a capital murder charge along with evading arrest and a parole violation. Brezina is suspected of stabbing estranged girlfriend Brandy Wallen, 45, of Decatur Monday at Toast Your Bunz tanning salon on Business U.S. 380 in Decatur. Wallen died later that evening at Wise Health System. Brezina led officers on a pursuit on U.S. 81/287 before crashing into a tree in the median just north of County Road 2798 near Brushy Creek north of Alvord. No bond amount was set for the charges. Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins said an officer is stationed at the hospital and Brezina will be brought to Wise County Jail when he is discharged from the hospital.

RHOME MOVES AHEAD WITH BONDS – The Rhome city council approved an ordinance to issue $2.62 million in bonds to expand the Eastside Wastewater Treatment Plant Thursday. Voters approved $2.75 million in November to cover the entire project. The sale of the bonds is expected to be complete Feb. 6.

RAINY DAY – Rain began falling in Wise County Friday morning and is expected to continue throughout the day. The National Weather Service office in Fort Worth expects between a quarter and half of inch of rain to fall with temperatures in the upper 40s. The rain is expected to move out of the area around 9 p.m., giving way to patchy fog and lows around 42. The weekend is expected to be cool with highs in the high 40s and lows in the 30s.

HOOPS SCHEDULE – The Bridgeport Sissies face a pivotal showdown in 8-4A against Krum at 6:30 tonight at home. The Bulls will follow with a matchup against the Bobcats. In other action, Boyd teams welcome in Jacksboro. The Paradise Panthers and Lady Panthers face Peaster. Alvord welcomes in Era. Chico travels to Petrolia. Slidell heads to Saint Jo. The Decatur Eagles face North Central Texas Academy in non-district action.

COMMUNITY COALITION MEETING – The Wise County Community Coalition meets noon Monday at Pizza Hut in Decatur. The topic is “Why Can’t We Be Friends?”

PROJECT SHOW – The Paradise High School Project Show is slated for Saturday at the school.

RHOME VETERANS – Rhome Veterans will sponsor movie night, featuring “Mash” 6:30 p.m. today at the Rhome Public Library. The group’s auxiliary meeting is 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Rhome Public Library with the Veterans meeting following at 10 a.m.

BEANS AND CORNBREAD – The Bridgeport FFA’s second annual beans and cornbread dinner and silent auction is 6 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport High School cafeteria.

LEGO PYRAMID CHALLENGE – The Chico Public Library will hold its Lego Pyramid Challenge from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. For information, contact Michelle or Lisa 940-644-2330.

MOTHER-SON DANCE – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation’s “Mother-Son Dance” is 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport Community Center. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at city hall or bridgeport.recdesk.com. The theme this year is “Mom is my Superhero!” Come dressed as your favorite hero.
