Decatur ISD trustees took no action on the contract of Superintendent Judi Whitis Monday night.

Whitis requested trustees wait until her next review to act her contract. Her contract with the district runs through July 30, 2021, paying her $158,000 annually. She has been with the district since July 2017.

Trustees held Whitis’ annual review earlier this month but tabled any action until Monday.

In June, the board voted 4-3 to keep Whitis on the job after three hours in closed session.

“After the events of the past 10 months, with the conflict and friction on the board, I thought it was in the best interest of the district,” Whitis said after the meeting. “We’re not focused as a team on what needs to happen.”

School Board President Cheri Boyd agreed with Whitis’ request.

“I think personally it shows that her focus is on what is best for the district,” Boyd said.

Two citizens, Lori Reeves and Shannon Johnson, spoke during the public input, voicing opposition to the board renewing Whitis’ contract.

“I don’t think it’s a good fit, and when it’s not a good fit, you have to take a step back and re-evaluate what you are doing,” Reeves said.
