A woman was partially ejected from her Nissan sedan and killed Sunday night when she flipped her vehicle into the median on U.S. 81/287 just south of Decatur, according to Department of Public Safety Cpl. Lantz Elliot.

DPS and Decatur Police responded to the crash around 9 p.m. Elliot said the woman and her 15-year-old son were traveling north on 287 when she became drowsy and fell asleep at the wheel.

The woman veered into the shoulder on the east side of the highway, overcorrected and crashed into the median. Her vehicle rolled several times, according to Elliot.

Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Elliot said the woman was not wearing her seat belt.

The 15-year-old boy was transported to Wise Health System with minor injuries and abrasions. Names are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
