Fire tore through Freedom Fried Hamburgers in Boyd Monday morning, destroying the inside of the business.

Boyd, Decatur, Rhome. Newark and Paradise fire departments responded to the call shortly after 4 a.m., according to Wise County Fire Marshal Jeff Doughty. Boyd Fire Chief Chris Caster said by the time his crew arrived, fire and smoke were pouring out of the back of the building.

“We’re trying to contain exposure to other businesses,” Caster said. “The inside of [Freedom Fried Hamburgers] is probably a total loss.”

Caster said the neighboring business, The Pecan House, likely sustained smoke damage.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The Wise County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Boyd Police Department provided to mutual aid.

Rock Island Ave. was shut down in both direction for more than two hours as traffic was diverted around the scene.
