Kaycee Martin drove in three runs with a bases clearing double, and the Paradise Lady Panthers tallied nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to beat Boyd 13-3 in five innings Tuesday afternoon.

Paradise’s scoring outburst chased Ryleigh Ashford from the circle, as the Lady Jackets’ starter surrendered 13 runs on nine hits. She struck out eight and walked four.

“That last inning there was nothing we could really do,” said Boyd coach Brandon Hopkins. “They just put the ball in play where we weren’t, for the most part. They hit the ball well that last inning.”

Boyd jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an RBI-single from Sydney Langley in the top half of the first. The Lady Panthers responded with a two-run home run from starting pitcher Kendall Candioto.

She ended the day 2-for-3 at the plate. In the circle, she gave up three runs on two hits. She struck out eight and walked seven over five innings of work.

The Lady Jackets tied the game at two on a solo home run by Ashford In the top of the second. Paradise senior Maddi Terry then gave the lead back to the Lady Panthers with a line drive single to left field that brought home Tori Green.

Boyd tied the game again with a sacrifice fly, but Christina Tipton’s RBI double in the fifth inning put Paradise up for good.

“It’s a 4-3 game and we had given them a couple runs on some errors,” Hopkins said. “That last inning [Ashford] was leaving stuff up in the zone a little bit. She walked a couple of people, but she was pitching well early on. That last inning you have to give them credit, they found some holes.”

Paradise improved to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in District 7-3A. Boyd dropped to 10-10 and 1-2 in league play.
