Hicks named MVP: Eagles earn slew of district honors

Decatur senior Wilson Hicks was named District 8-4A MVP, leading the Eagles to an undefeated run through league play and an 8-4A title.

Hicks was also named MVP of the Region I tournament and scored 11 points in Decatur’s 4A semifinal against Liberty Hill.

Fellow senior Ethan Southard was named Defensive MVP. The 6-7 post anchored the Eagles’ suffocating defense that held opponents to 41.3 points. Junior Carson Tibbels earned Sixth Man of the Year.

Decatur’s Izek Chavana, Grayson Harris and Gage Rieger were named to the first team. Rieger was also named to the 4A all-tournament team. He led all scorers with 15 points in the 4A semifinal.

Juniors Triston Read, Noah Young and Layton Harris were tabbed to the second team.

Bridgeport senior Isaiah Smith and junior Drew Carstens were selected to the second team.

MVP: Wilson Hicks, senior, Decatur

OFFENSIVE MVP: Max Valentino, senior, Argyle

DEFENSIVE MVP: Ethan Southad, senior, Decatur

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Nate Atwood, sophomore, Argyle

SIXTH MAN OF THE YEAR: Carson Tibbels, junior, Decatur
