Three Decatur athletes signed letters of intent to play football in college Wednesday morning.

Zane Hickey, who was a four-year starter for the Eagles, will play at McPherson College. Hickey was a member of the 2018 All-Wise football team, recording 161 tackles and three sacks.

“It means a lot to be able to go on and play at the next level,” Hickey said. “I went through a lot these past four years. I’ve just been working hard and proving people wrong.”

Defensive tackle Anderson Ramirez signed with Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Ramirez was also a member of the 2018 All-Wise football team with 70 tackles.

“It’s very exciting. I’ve been waiting for this,” Ramirez said. “People said I wouldn’t make it, and it just feels good to prove everybody wrong. I feel blessed to have this opportunity.”

Offensive lineman Morgan Picha rounded out Decatur’s three signees. The senior was a first-team District 4-4A I selection and graded out at over 90 percent last season.

“This is what I’ve always dreamed of. It doesn’t matter DI, DII or DIII, it’s always special whenever you sign to go play somewhere,” Picha said. “I’m honestly blessed. I’m very excited and can’t wait to get down there and learn their system.”
