Several area basketball players were named to Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-state and all-region teams.

Decatur seniors Wilson Hicks and Ethan Southard were tabbed to the 4A all-state team. The pair led the Eagles to their first appearance in the state tournament, as well as a district and region title.

Hicks was Decatur’s leading scorer and earned 8-4A MVP honors. Southard was the 8-4A Defensive MVP. The Eagles ended the year 37-4.

Slidell’s Slayton Pruett was a 1A all-state selection.

The junior was the MVP of the Class A final, posting a 10-point, 21-rebound double-double to secure the Greyhounds’ first title in 75 years. Pruett finished the final one rebound shy of the rebounding record in a state tournament game.

Pruett’s teammates, senior Hunter Horner and sophomore Easton Vanover, were selected to the Class A Region III team.

Decatur junior Gage Rieger, who was named to the 4A all-state tournament team, was a 4A Region I selection.
