Chico High School cheerleaders took home a top-10 finish at the UIL spirit championships, placing ninth in Class 2A.

The team was judged on a band chant, crowd leading and fight song. Chico tallied 81.2 points.

“My girls are very competitive and enjoy showcasing their skills, so a competition like this is a huge draw for our program,” said Chico coach Lisa McDaniel. “The girls are already looking forward and planning for next year when they will reach even higher.”

The top 20 schools in each classification are called back to perform in finals. Chico was third in prelims and the only Wise County school to earn a top-10 finish.

“It was really touching how the girls responded to us and wanted a win, not only for our team, but to make it special for us seniors,” said captain Mace McDaniel. “I love all of my girls and have been so proud to be their captain.”
