Hey Wise County artists, I need your help.

Starting this week I’ll be on a mission to scour the culture of Wise County in an attempt to share what makes this place and its people unique.

This will be an Arts and Life column, which, by definition, is broad.

I like it that way. It’s an opportunity for me to take an unfiltered look at our county without pesky third-person formality and tell its story from a different perspective.

I’ve seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the art world through various features and stories in my time here. I’ve been blown away by the talent, but I know there’s far more.

I’m casting a broad net ranging from classical skill to unorthodox thrills.

I plan to share the work of musicians, culinary savants, painters, sculptors, and also, anyone with a passion and a flare for creativity that adds to our unique tapestry of visible and hidden talent.

I carry a very liberal interpretation of art. I think it could be pretty much anything. For example, I have a secret, stupid superpower. Without fail, I always grab the exact number of hangers I need from my closet when I’m doing laundry. It’s a gift, I know. But things like that, to me, can be art.

If you have a unique slice of life that you would like to share, an odd treasure or collection, a cool hobby or unique passion, I’d like to come along and see what it’s all about.

Shoot me an email with a little information about what you got going on. There’s no wrong answers. I can’t wait to share your secret, stupid superpower.
