Interest in Wise County oil fields on increase

The oil excitement is increasing daily in Wonderful Wise. During the past two weeks, dozens of men from Texas and the Eastern States have been here leasing land for oil development. Many of the leases call for drilling within 60 to 90 days. The leases are being taken in all parts of the county, and the visitors seem to think that the whole county is in the oil belt. As yet, the prices on leases are low, the price is gradually increasing, and the cash is being paid in order to secure the leases.

Wilson R. Wood, 25, of Chico, is one of the youngest pilots in AAF history to win the eagle-shoulder insignia of a full colonel. Colonel Wood leads a B-26 Marauder group in the European theater of War.

Truck hits patch of ice on FM 730

Michael Quinn Sword, 21, of Boyd was killed when his truck hit a patch of ice on FM 730 north of Boyd and flipped off a bridge into Walnut Creek.

His truck slid sideways, striking the small curb on the side of the bridge, and flipped into the creek about 20 feet below. … The bridge has no side rails.
