Watson decides not to run for post

Decatur ISD Place 1 trustee Wade Watson confirmed this week that he will not seek a new term.

Watson has been on the board since 2013. His term expires in May.

“It’s time for fresh faces,” Watson said. “Hopefully we can get things going in a positive direction.”

Three candidates have filed for his spot in the May 4 election, with local design consultant Pete Rivera joining oil and gas broker Thomas Houchin and Costco regional manager Stan Shults in the race.

Decatur ISD School Board President and artist Cheri Boyd is currently unopposed for her Place 2 seat.

For the Decatur City Council, Place 2 incumbent Susan Cocanougher is facing challenges from Jake Hayes and Justin Horton. Place 6 incumbent Randy Parker has filed. Eddie Allen tossed his hat in the ring for the Place 4 spot currently held by Margaret Doubrava.

At Boyd ISD, incumbent Kenneth Shepherd filed to stay in Place 6. For the city of Boyd, incumbent Ashley Frisinger filed for the unexpired term of Place 1.

At Bridgeport ISD, two incumbent school board members filed to keep their places. Duane Sutherland filed to stay in Place 5 and Jim Bost filed for Place 4.

In Bridgeport, Bryson Boyd, the president of Wise County Citizens for Property Rights, filed for city council Place 5. Incumbent Billy Fred Walker also filed to keep his seat in Place 5. Incumbent council members Jimmy Meyers, Place 3, and Bobby Brazier, Place 4 filed to keep their seats. Former Bridgeport Index reporter Vella Alexander also filed for Place 4.

Northwest ISD School Board President Judy Copp filed to retain her Place 4 post.

The deadline to file is Feb. 15.
