The rumor of a student bringing a firearm to Bridgeport High School was quickly dispelled Friday afternoon, according to a press release by Bridgeport ISD Superintendent Brandon Peavey.

Peavey said the school district received an unconfirmed report that a student overheard another student say they had a gun. Bridgeport School Resource Officers and school administrators investigated the report, interviewed students and reviewed security video. No firearm was found.

Bridgeport Police Chief Steve Stanford said the department increased the number of officers at the high school and also brought in a K9 used to detect firearms and gunpowder. Stanford added no firearm was discovered. Extra officers remained on campus through dismissal Friday.
