SCRAPBOOKING – The MZ Bee, which will feature scrapbooking and crafting, is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 6 in the fellowship hall at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 615 County Road 1280. MARY’S GIFT – The Mary’s Gift program funded through Wise Health Foundation provides free 3D mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women and men of Wise County. WOMAN’S CLUB SCHOLARSHIP – The Decatur Junior Woman’s Club is offering two $1,000 scholarships to any graduating Decatur High School or Victory Christian Academy senior. STORY TIMES – The Decatur Public Library will hold its Little Learners Storytime at 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays for children ages 3 to 5. The program will include music, rhymes, movement and short stories. The library will hold Sensory Storytime at 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays for children of all ages. The early literacy class combines a short structured storytime with interactive play, music and movement. Call the library, 940-393-0290.

SCHOOL FUNDRAISER – The Decatur High School Special Education department is selling “See the Able not the Label” t-shirts to raise money for the purchase of adapted PE equipment. GOLF TOURNAMENT – The Decatur Golf Booster Club will hold its golf tournament March 24 at Decatur Golf Club. Registration begins at noon and teetime is 1 p.m. The entry fee is $400 for a four-person team. All proceeds benefit the Decatur High School golf teams. PRE-KINDERGARTEN LOTTERY – Northwest ISD will continue offering its tuition-based pre-kindergarten during the 2019-20 school year, and the application process for the program is now open. Tuition-based pre-K is available for children who live within Northwest ISD boundaries and will be 4 years old by Sept. 1 but do not meet the eligibility requirements to enroll in state-funded pre-K. Those who are accepted into the tuition-based program will have the opportunity to attend half-day pre-K. Tuition for the program is $377.80 per month over 10 months, or a one-time payment of $3,778. Because class space is limited, tuition-based pre-K will select students through a lottery system. Lottery registration for the program will be available until 6 p.m. Friday, when the application process will close. Students will be selected for the program based on available classroom space at Curtis, Haslet, Hughes, Justin, Lakeview, Love, Nance, Peterson, Prairie View, Roanoke, Seven Hills and Thompson elementary schools. It has not yet been determined if pre-K will be available at the currently under-construction Lance Thompson Elementary School. A non-refundable payment of $125 is due during document review at a child’s campus to hold his or her spot. This payment, which only applies to those chosen from the lottery, will be credited toward the first tuition payment.


STORY TIME – The Rhome Public Library will host Story Time Hour every Wednesday at 11 a.m. The new story time leader is Deb Duckwall who is starting a new literary-based program. READING DOG – Ava the reading dog will return to Rhome Public Library from 2:45 to 5 p.m. March 13. The licensed therapy dog will be available for 15-minute sessions for children to read to. To reserve a time slot, call 817-636-2767.

VETERANS EVENTS – Rhome Veterans will hold several events this month at the Rhome Public Library. The group will show “Gray Lady Down” during its movie night at 6:30 Friday. The Auxiliary meeting is 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the monthly veterans meeting following at 10. The group will lead a field trip from the library at 9 a.m. March 23 to Crazy Water in Mineral Wells.


TAX PREPARATION – Area residents with lower incomes can get free help preparing and filing their taxes. Volunteers will be at the Decatur Public Library, 1700 FM 51 South, every Monday afternoon 3 to 6:30 p.m. through April 15. Filers should bring: W-2, 1098 and 1099 forms and information about income tax that is already paid and about possible deductions, photo ID and Social Security cards for filer and dependents. DINNER WITH THE MAYORS – The Wise County Chamber of Commerce will hold its Dinner with the Mayors 6:30 p.m. March 28 at the Decatur Conference Center. Tickets are on sale for $25 online and will be $30 at the door.

HOSPITAL AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIPS – The Wise Health System Hospital Auxiliary is accepting applications for its seven $1,000 scholarships for Wise County high school seniors interested in pursuing a degree in a health-related field. AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP – Wise County graduating high school seniors who plan to major in agriculture at a Texas college oruniversity are eligible for the Jim Frank Hornback Scholarship. FALL PREVENTION CLASS – The North Central Texas Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service-Wise County will conduct the free fall prevention class, Matter of Balance, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays through April 24 at the at Wise County’s AgriLife Extension office, 206 S. WELL SCREENING – The Texas Well Owner Network is hosting a water well screening April 10 in Decatur. The screening will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office for Wise County, 206 S. State St. A meeting explaining screening results will be at 6 p.m. April 11 at the Wise County Fairgrounds, Women’s Building, 3101 S. FM 51, in Decatur.

MEALS ON WHEELS FUNDRAISER – The Wise County Committee on Aging will hold its second Annual Meals-on-Wheels “Murder for a Cause” event 6 p.m. April 5, at the Decatur Conference Center. SKYWARN CLASS – A National Weather Service meteorologist will lead a free severe weather class 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Woman’s Building at the Wise County Fairgrounds.

REPUBLICAN MEETING – The Wise County Republicans and Wise Republican Women will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the courtroom at the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, 200 Rook Ramsey Drive, in Decatur.
